mel-o-dra-ma (mel'r-dram'r [local pronunciation]): n 1 a: a work (as a movie or play) characterized by extravagant theatricality and by the predominance of plot and physical action over characterization [Webster's Dictionary definition
The Melodrama is a unique theatrical experience, invented in the USA. Nobody does it quite as uniquely as The Summer Mummers, the oldest existing organization of its kind in the country. The Summer Mummers provide their own brand of entertainment to thousands of patrons each summer, while providing the Midland Community Theatre (MCT) with a substantial portion of their yearly operating budget.
The Summer Mummers are an all-volunteer group. From the producers and directors to the popcorn sellers, each and every one is there giving of their time and energy to help out. Of course the fact that they have a great time makes it something that keeps them coming back, many of them for decades!
